On Thursday October 11th 2001 the Sister Cities Greyhound Challenge Race Meeting was held in Christchurch with special races between greyhounds from Christchurch and Adelaide, one of Christchurch’s six sister cities.
Four Adelaide greyhounds raced at the Addington Raceway alongside Christchurch’s top four greyhounds, over a distance of 520 metres for a $30,000 stake.
The race favourite Adelaide’s Pristine Raider confirmed his champion status by winning the Sister Cities Challenge, with Canterbury dogs Aqua Fling taking second place and Novice and Blue Double Dee dead-heating for third.
A requirement for Christchurch entries was that dogs had to be trained by a Christchurch Trainer in order to qualify for the competition, then over three prior evenings of racing the top four out of 90 Christchurch greyhounds were selected for the final four positions.
